Welcome to our new website!
Who?
Salford Table Tennis Club is a brand new Club now being set-up to provide for the many table tennis players in the City of Salford and the surrounding areas.
What happened to the Salford & Farnworth League?
Like many local others, the League was experiencing a slow but steady decline in interest from teams, and decided that it was time for a radical re-think. Strangely enough, though interest in team table tennis had been declining, the number of enquiries (through the website) from people looking for "somewhere to play" continues to steadily increase. Consequently, the League has decided to transform itself into a form that best meets the expectations of the players in this area today.
So what's happening?
At the moment (early September) the Club is still in the process of "getting organised". We have an interim management committee and some initial funding in-place, and we're looking for the 'right' venue to be the Club's base. We hope to have that sorted-out by the end of September, at which point we'll be able to open-up membership.
Then will I then be able to come along for a 'knock'?
Absolutely. We plan to hold at least one open practice session each week, though we don't know what day - or where! - that will be just yet of course.
Will you be organising regular competitive table tennis?
Of course. For starters we plan to run 'ladder' type competitions for Club members, but we're quite happy to field teams in 'outside' competitions for those members who want to commit to playing on a regular basis. Several of our founder members run teams in local leagues, and its possible they may choose to 'migate' their teams to be based at the new Club.
What about Juniors?
We realise there's a huge demand locally for junior coaching, so we're aiming to set-up junior coaching sessions just as soon as we can. Amongst other things, we're aiming to give the City of Salford a really competitive junior table tennis team for the 2009 Greater Manchester Youth Games.
Is the Club just for experienced players?
Absolutely not! We'll be welcoming players of all age groups and standards; including complete beginners and the long-time-lapsed-and-rusty, through to the seriously competitive!
What will it cost me?
Good question, but one that - for the moment - I'm afraid we can't answer! We want to make membership accessible to all, and so we'll be aiming to set charges as low as we possibly can; bearing in mind the need to cover the Club's running costs.
We expect to be charging a modest annual membership fee; which may well include affiliation fees to the sport's governing bodies. For 'Club Nights' there'll be a small charge for members; with a supplement payable by non-members (i.e. guests).
Coaching sessions will naturally have to cover both the Club's running costs and the expenses of the coaches but - for junior coaching at least - we hope to be able to get enough funding to enable us to keep charges down to a few pounds for each session.
What if I'm interested in joining?
For now, all we can advise is bookmark this site and keep checking back! Once you see that the 'Membership Enquiries' link (on the right hand side) has gone live, then you'll be able to send us a message to register your interest.
